The National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) has issued a security alert, warning of a potential terrorist threat during the upcoming Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest in Islamabad,
In response to alert, authorities instructed to remain vigilant and reinforce security around the protest site
The public meeting of PTI may be the target of a terrorist assault, according to NACTA, which specifically mentioned a danger from a gang of terrorists who just entered Pakistan from Afghanistan.
The notice emphasises the possibility of an assault and notes that during the night of November 19 and 20, terrorists from the “Fitna al-Khawarij,” formerly known as the TTP, crossed into Pakistan over the Pak-Afghan border.
The threat clearly mentions the PTI protest and raises the possibility that the militants may try to attack during the rally.
Security has been tightened throughout the capital in reaction to the threat. To avoid any unfortunate accidents, authorities have been told to maintain their vigilance and bolster security around the protest location.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar was told earlier today by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi that the government would not permit any demonstrations or sit-ins in Islamabad because of security concerns during a high-ranking Belarusian delegation’s official visit.
Prior to the arrival of an 80-member Belarusian delegation headed by President Alexander Lukashenko, who is expected to visit Islamabad from November 24 to 27, Naqvi called Barrister Gohar.
The government has put strict security measures in place as PTI gets ready for its protest on November 24. These include deploying thousands of troops in Islamabad to protect public safety and imposing Section 144 throughout Punjab for three days.
Rangers have been stationed at important government buildings in Islamabad, and authorities have blocked off access to the Red Zone.
Heavy security personnel, including police and FC, are positioned near D-Chowk, and containers have blocked a number of highways, including the Srinagar Highway, GT Road, and routes to Islamabad Airport.
Furthermore, as a precaution, internet and mobile services have been temporarily halted in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad. All bus terminals in Faizabad have been blocked, and public transit, including the metro bus services in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, has been suspended.
